1.Some college students like to spend their free time studying another
course or doing schoolwork. Others like to join a club and enjoy club activities.
Which do you think is better and why?
T: From my point of view, spending my free time joining in the club and enjoying the club activities is much better.
R1: Firstly, it is significant for a college student to spend some time to learn how to get along with others. Joining in a club and making some new friends will improve our ability of socialization. Actually, we are building up a valuable social network, which will do a lot of good to our future life.
R2: Besides, we have already had a full day of classes, why don’t we join in the club and try to relax ourselves. As a saying goes: all work no play makes jack a dull boy. The appropriate relaxation will make us more efficient in the studies afterwards.
C: That’s why I think college students should join in a club and enjoy the club activities.
2. A friend of yours always gets up late in the morning and misses his morning classes. The professor has told him that this behavior will affect his grade. What advice would you give him and why? Please include details and examples in your explanation.
Personally, I’d tell my friend to completely change his sleeping habits that he needs to go to bed early and get up early in the morning from now on because once he finishes school and starts to work, he still has to get up early for work and at work, no one will tolerate his chronic tardiness. For example, a friend of mine in college always got up late in the morning and was never on time for any of her morning classes because she always went to bed after midnight. After we finished school and started working for the same company, she didn’t change her sleeping habits and was let go by our supervisor the third time she was late to work. Therefore, I’d tell my friend to change his sleeping habits now.
3. which one of the following qualities do you think is the most important for a university student: Highly - motivated, hard-working or intelligent?
I think being highly - motivated is really important for a college student, first of all, if you already get admitted to an university, which means you are intelligent enough to be successful, you should have confidence in that matter. Also, I don’t think we should work hard all the time, because that’s not the meaning of getting into a college, from my perspective, the objective of higher education is to discover your potential, you inner desire, then you finally have something to motivate yourself and that’s when you life starts to change, because everything you do is beginning to have a meaning. And if you are highly - motivated, which means, you spend like a few years to pursue one goal, you will eventually become what you intend to be.
4.Some people think, with the development of technology and the internet, libraries will disappear, while others think libraries are always necessary. Which one do you agree, and please give specific details to support your opinion.
I think libraries are always necessary. First of all, you need to be discriminating in your use of the internet, because everyone can contribute to it, some sources are not that reliable, but books in libraries are selected by people with expertise, so if you are serious with your research, you will find yourself go to libraries a lot. Besides, some information can only be found in libraries, such as the history of a small town, you may even have to read parchment or rare books, so libraries will never be replaced by the internet, they are always useful.
5 问题:想让地质学科的名师写推荐信，给她发邮件，迟迟没有回复， 问是没有收到邮件，写的话两周以后才能写好，然周以后就是申请的截期 。
The woman's problem is that she emailed her geology professor to ask her to write an recommendation letter for her, but she got no response. Then she emailed her again and discovered that the professor didn’t receive her first email and the recommendation letter would only be ready in two weeks, one week after the application deadline. She can try to ask for an extension of the application form or ask another psychology professor to write the letter for her. I would recommend the second solution, although the second professor is not in her area of expertise, still, she is able to finish her application, since the competition is so keen, it’s better to get things done quickly and efficiently.
